Get a Leg Up on Leg Cramps

It’s the middle of the night, you launch yourself out of bed, and try to walk-off a nasty leg or foot cramp!

If you’ve experienced this scenario, you know how miserable it can be. So, before it happens again, read about the common causes of leg & foot cramps. Then try the simple, inexpensive suggestions.

Common causes of leg cramps:

  • Dehydration
  • Mineral Deficiency
  • Cold Feet

You may be surprised to see that these causes are interrelated

Dehydration

In the Wintertime, when temperatures drop, these factors increase:

1) We often drink less water;

2) Indoor air is much drier from heaters & furnaces;

3) Valuable minerals become depleted because of poor food choices.

Mineral Deficiencies

We’ve all heard of "electrolytes." Thousands of sports drinks are sold every day promising to replenish these essential minerals. But what are electrolytes and how do they work?

Electrolytes are minerals in the bloodstream & tissues that carry a charge. They conduct electricity to power all the metabolic systems in the body.

Some of the minerals typically lacking are iodine, sodium, potassium and magnesium(more on this in upcoming series)

Cold Feet

What do cold feet have to do with all this and how could they possibly link to the other two causes?

Actually, there are many people in warm climates with cold feet for a very simple reason:

When a human body has an electrolyte imbalance, there is less oxygen in the cells.

With less oxygen for the cells, they don't create sufficient energy and heat.

So, what can we do TODAY to help balance our electrolytes -- without all the sugar & artificial ingredients in many sports drinks?

Try this simple, healthy & clean electrolyte drink

Mix together in a cup of water, or ½ juice & ½ water:

    1/4 teaspoon pure cream of tartar (available in the spice section of a grocery or health food store), and

    A pinch of unrefined salt, such as Celtic Sea salt or Himalayan pink salt.

To supercharge your homemade electrolyte drink, add 1 teaspoon of liquid chlorophyll from a health store or natural foods site on the internet. Chlorophyll contains many valuable minerals, cleanses internal tissues,,,.and will turn your tonic bright green!

As the great holistic teacher Dr. Bernard Jensen often said, “When you’re green inside, you’re clean inside!"
